Praise hands

Luke 2:52 NLT - Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.

Psalm 147:5 NKJV - Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.

Romans 11:33-36 NIV - Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

  1. Wise Living Starts with Fearing The Lord

Proverbs 9:10 NIV - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

  1. Wise Living Grows by Receiving God’s Word

Psalm 19:7 NET – The law of the Lord is perfect and preserves one’s life. The rules set down by the Lord are reliable and impart wisdom to the inexperienced.

  1. Wise Living Requires That We Ask for It Specifically

James 1:5-6 NIV - If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

Proverbs 3:13-18 NLT - Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.

2 Chronicles 1:7-10 NLT - That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!” Solomon replied to God, “You showed great and faithful love to David, my father, and now you have made me king in his place.  O Lord God, please continue to keep your promise to David my father, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth!  Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?”

2 Chronicles 1:11-12 NLT - God said to Solomon, “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame, or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people— I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested. But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!”

3 Ways To Learn:

Easy way = learn from other people’s mistakes

Hard way = learn from your own mistakes

Tragic way = you don’t learn from either

Proverbs 4:7 NKJV - Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

  • Wisdom is a Journey

Psalm 1:1-2 AMPC - Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.

But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.

James 1:14-15 NIV -  but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Ephesians 5:15-17 NASB - So then, be careful how you walk, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.  Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Three Ways We Can Walk Out Wisdom:

A. We Can Walk Carefully (v.15).

Proverbs 14:16 NASB - A wise person is cautious and turns away from evil,
But a fool is arrogant and careless.

Proverbs 12:15 NASB - The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
But a person who listens to advice is wise.

Proverbs 28:26 NIV - Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

B. We can Redeem the Time (v.16).

Psalm 90:12 NIV - Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Just a tiny little minute only sixty seconds in it Forced upon me. Can't refuse it. Didn't seek it, didn't choose it, I must suffer if I loose it, Give account if I abuse it. Just a tiny little minute, but eternity is in it.

C. We Can Understand the Will of the Lord (v.17).

  • John Maxwell says, "You cannot overestimate the unimportance of practically everything." In reality only about 20% of what you do really matters. Doing the will of the God is prioritizing that 20%!”

  • General Eisenhower is quoted as saying, "The urgent is seldom important, and the important is seldom urgent."

  • Wisdom is Available

Proverbs 8:2-3 NKJV -  She (Wisdom) takes her stand on top of the high hill, Beside the way where the paths meet. She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, At the entrance of the doors:

Proverbs 1:20-21 NIV - Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square; on top of the wall she cries out, at the city gate she makes her speech:

James 1:5 NIV - If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Proverbs 24:3-4 NIV - By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.

Colossians 1:9 NIV -  For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,
