Nehemiah 4:14 (NIV): After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
It helps to understand the seasons of raising the next generation.
Discipline Season - 0 - 5 years old.
Proverbs 13:24 (MSG): A refusal to correct is a refusal to love; love your children by disciplining them.
Ephesians 6:4 (NIV): [Parents], do not [unnecessarily] exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Training Season- 5 - 12 years old.
1. HONOR GOD
Philippians 4:9 (NIV): Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
1 Corinthians 11:1 (NIV): Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
2. HONOR GOD'S PEOPLE
Philippians 2:3–4 (NIV): Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
3. HONOR GOD'S WORD
Deuteronomy 6:5–9 (NIV): Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
Coaching Season - 12-18 years old.
Friendship Years - 18 & older.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV): But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
